The University of Tennessee will announce the retirement of its vice chancellor for student life this afternoon, a week after the News Sentinel reported that Tim Rogers had informed his staff that he would step down, according to UT officials.

The department will report to Provost Susan Martin in the interim, beginning June 30, said Margie Nichols, vice chancellor for communication. Chancellor Jimmy Cheek was scheduled to speak to the senior members of Rogers’ staff 1:30 p.m. today to announce Martin as his temporary replacement.

UT officials would not say why Rogers was stepping down, and calls to his office and home were not returned last week.
